Chronicling the return of the Dragon Priest Miraak , players were given a rude awakening when meeting the first 'Dragonborn.' Bringing the long-awaited dragon mounts into the mix, the DLC finally let players travel to other realms of the Elder Scrolls universe as well. It may be a one-stop shop for Elder Scrolls fans, but it comes far closer than we ever expected from
The concept of healing yourself in video games is hilariously inaccurate. Shooting yourself up with needles, munching on painkillers, or eating food alone cannot cure bullet wounds. Bioshock Infinite calls back to the very early days of regenerating health, where characters could eat pizza or cheeseburgers in the street, dropped from bloody enemies, in order to feel better. It wasn’t possible in the 8-Bit and 16-Bit generation and it sure isn’t possible in the realm of Bioshock Infinite, even with flying cities. So yeah, Booker go ahead and eat that hot dog from the trash. If you die from food poisoning, I’m sure a smarter version of you will appear in an alternate timeline. I’ll share another video , this time from Mega64, to accompany my po
The Grand Theft Auto series have produced some amazing games in the last 20 years. The game's developers Rockstar have truly pioneered the open the world game, setting what many consider to be the benchmark for the genre upon every new release. They have introduced the world to some memorable characters like the ones seen in Grand Theft Auto Vice City to the more recent Grand Theft Auto
Many characters have a unique response when you repeatedly call them, most of them say something along the lines of 'leave me alone you annoying creep' before hanging up. And if — for some indiscernible reason — you like mindlessly calling your friends for no reason whatsoever, then you should probably stop it if it gets out of hand, seeing that you're already emulating your real life behavior in a video g
Seeing Paramount announce a 2013 release date for Star Trek a few days ago, another one of our most anticipated games of the year, we now wonder if we have another game on our most anticipated list not actually releasing this year. Then again, it could be at E3 2012 where we see some major announcement of GTA V potentially being a launch title for the Wii U , something that was heavily rumored last summer... wouldn't that be e
There's something about these games that just makes them stand out to me. Sure the gameplay isn't perfect, but in the case of Nier , it has one of the most beautiful stories ever told in a video game. Dark Void also has this great world, that I just want to learn more about. I can put aside the gameplay issues because I geniuenly love the world I'm playing in. Spark Unlimited's Legendary is the same way - it's gameplay was terrible, but there's so much potential in there that I can't help but enjoy it. I recently put up my review for NeverDead , another game that fits this mould. The gameplay needs work, but there's just this irrefutiable charm in there that I can't d
The trend would continue with 'The Ballad of Gay Tony,' received just as strongly. The duo was later packaged as Episodes From Liberty City , and while it's hard to know if Rockstar Games philosophy will keep up the experiments, but these batches of DLC are not only some of the best ever released, but some of the strongest Grand Theft Auto content Rockstar has ever produ
You'll get a call on your phone, demanding you to explain your actions. While Franklin and Trevor react pretty normally (especially when you consider the fact that you just bombarded their houses with explosives), Michael probably has the most furious and amusing reaction to your acti
The sequel definitely takes some inspiration from the GTA series. The game gives the players the tools to have fun, allowing gamers to enjoy the world, and taking satirical shots at Western society. However, there's definitely a more cerebral way the game tackles very serious top
I find GTA V ’s issues especially interesting because Saints Row IV released barely a month before it and Saints Row IV succeeded in every aspect that GTA V failed. Fast, exciting transportation? Check. Lots of missions that are close enough together to reach? Check. Varied challenges that offer inherent value to improve your character? Check. 1255 clusters in town to improve your skills, carefully placed to catch your eye. Lots of wacky and entertaining missions that use the game mechanics in smart ways. Unique topography to keep missions engaging on a design perspective. All of these things made Saints Row IV a prime example of open-world gaming that not once felt like padding or busy work.
Needless to say, this is fantastic news for everyone at Double Fine -- but it's more than that. The success of the Kickstarter demonstrates with extreme clarity that, as a group, gamers can be effectively mobilized and are willing to support the work they cherish. Where this will go next is anyone's guess, but for the moment I am extraordinarily proud of our commun
